FILM: Can We Convert Waste Gas to Food

As a 2019 Schmidt Science Fellow Rebecca Sherbo is harnessing the power of microbes to convert carbon dioxide and other waste gasses into foods, fertilizers, and fuels.

By tapping into the natural processes perfected by microbes over millions of years, Rebecca aims to change how we utilize the greenhouse gases causing climate change and the way we think about our food sources.

Pivoting from electrochemistry to synthetic biology and now an Assistant Professor at Northeastern University, she is harnessing the power of microbes to convert carbon dioxide and other waste gasses into foods, fertilizers, and fuels.

This film delves into her journey from growing up in Winnipeg, with a deep connection to the environment, to leading her own lab focused on pioneering  solutions that can mitigate climate change.
