Dr. David McAllister

David is responsible for identifying and recruiting the brightest minds from around the world to become Schmidt Science Fellows. He also leads a wide variety of outreach activities to ensure we recruit a diverse community of Fellows who will go on to redefine the boundaries of science.

With over 20 years of experience in research funding, policy, and strategy, David brings expertise in fellowships, grant review management, and innovative funding delivery to the team, driven by his passion for supporting early career researchers.

David joined Schmidt Science Fellows from UK Research and Innovation, the UK’s national funding agency,  where he was most recently Director of Talent, Inclusion and Funding Delivery for the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council.

David holds a PhD in veterinary parasitology and vaccinology from the University of Glasgow, Scotland, where he also undertook his undergraduate studies in parasitology.
