Joining the team in May 2023, Fiona works with the Admissions Team to support the selection of the most promising candidates for the Fellowship Program. Fiona is involved in all aspects of the candidate journey, from nomination, through application and review, to selection.
Before joining the Schmidt Science Fellows program team Fiona worked in the biostatistics sector where she developed statistical software for clinical trial design. This followed over five years in academic research where Fiona used bioinformatics approaches to analyze and model single-cell data to understand relationships between gene regulation and cell heterogeneity.
It was while studying for her BA in Mathematics at the University of Cambridge that Fiona became interested in how quantitative approaches could be applied across scientific disciplines. She remained at the University of Cambridge for her MSci in Systems Biology and joined the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute for her MRes and PhD as a student working on cellular decision making in blood stem cells.
