Congratulations to 2018 Senior Fellow, Yogesh Goyal, on being named a 2021 STAT Wunderkind today. The award from the news site STAT recognizes the most impressive research scientists in health and medicine on the cusp of launching their independent careers.

Yogesh said: “I am super excited to be a part of this cohort of exceptional early career scientists. This recognition is especially heartening because it is awarded based on nominations from your peers and mentors, and I am grateful for them to have thought me fit for this prestigious award. I cannot wait to start my own group at Northwestern and continue my pursuit of transcending disciplinary boundaries to tackle the hardest problems in biology.”

Being a Schmidt Science Fellow has helped me pursue difficult problems in my pivoted field of biology and make meaningful contributions which I aim to continue doing in my own independent career. – Yogesh Goyal

Yogesh continued: “I am thankful for all the funding agencies that have continued to support my interdisciplinary work. Being a Schmidt Science Fellow has helped me pursue difficult problems in my pivoted field of biology and make meaningful contributions which I aim to continue doing in my own independent career.”

Interdisciplinary science and community have been inspirational and vital to Yogesh’s research – shifting his science into single cell biology aiming to understand how cancer cells are organized and communicate in response to pharmacologic perturbations during his Fellowship Placement at the University of Pennsylvania to starting his own research group at Northwestern University in early 2022.

STAT honours early-career researchers and invites its cohort to attend the STAT Summit joining leading figures in science and medicine as well as previous Wunderkinds cohorts.
