For Nominating Partners
Each year we invite over 100 of the world’s top universities and institutes to nominate a small number of their most exceptional PhD students to apply to Schmidt Science Fellows.
Nominating partners
We are grateful to our Nominating Partners for nominating their best candidates to our program. Our Selection Team aims to provide support with this process in the following ways:
- Ahead of applications opening, we invite our Nominating Partners to select and send us the details of their nominees.
- We deliver informational webinars for Nominating Partner representatives and prospective candidates to support the nomination process.
- Once applications are open, we communicate with our Nominating Partner contacts to provide updates on application deadlines and their nominated candidates’ applications.
If you have questions about our nominations process, please email: nominations@schmidtsciencefellows.org

Nominating Partner institutions are located around the world, in all six continents. They are selected based on the excellence of their doctoral-level training programs, which span a broad range of STEM disciplines, and their ability to identify exceptional graduate students with the curiosity, flair, and risk-positive attitudes we look for in Schmidt Science Fellows.
Nominating Partners share the Schmidt Science Fellows vision on the role of interdisciplinary science in addressing global challenges and are important partners in driving this mission forward.
If your institution is interested in becoming one of our Nominating Partners, please contact nominations@schmidtsciencefellows to arrange a preliminary discussion with our Selection Team. We welcome your interest at any time during our Selection cycle, and successful partners will be invited to nominate for the next available competition.
