Quantum computers hold immense potential, but we are “blind” to their inner workings because the very act of observing them tends to destroy the delicate quantum systems.
As a Schmidt Science Fellow, Thomas Hensel aims to develop a “gentle” observation technique that uses cleverly shaped light fields and advanced modeling to provide a window on the process with minimal disturbance.
The approach could allow us to film the motion of quantum particles and track how entanglement spreads across systems, opening new paths to understanding exotic quantum behavior and building smarter, more efficient quantum technologies.
Thomas will pivot from Biophysics to Quantum Computing
