We are delighted to announce that accomplished interdisciplinary scientist and engineer Professor Jennifer Lewis has joined our Academic Council.

Professor Lewis is the Hansjörg Wyss Professor of Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard and a core faculty member at the Wyss Institute.

Our Academic Council Members provide bespoke mentoring to individual Schmidt Science Fellows and, as a Council, act as an advisory group to Program leadership.

Professor Lewis’s research focuses on digital assembly of functional, structural, and biological materials.

Multiple startups are commercializing technology from her lab, ranging from printed electronics to kidney tissue therapeutics.

Our Academic Council Chair, Professor John Boothroyd, said: “Professor Lewis brings research leadership at the senior level, a great depth of interdisciplinary expertise, and a commitment to supporting early career scientists in realizing their potential.

“She has supported this Program from its outset. I am delighted that the Program, the Academic Council, and our Fellows will benefit from her knowledge and mentorship.”

Professor Lewis is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering, National Academy of Inventors, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

She has received numerous awards for her work, including the 2025 NAS James Prize for Science and Technology Integration.

Professor Lewis has been a long-term supporter of Schmidt Science Fellows and has served as a Schmidt Science Fellows Selector.
